What Defines the Transitional Style?

Materials: Quarter-sawn white oak, maple, and walnut for core casework. Painted finishes that sit beside natural wood. Performance linens and textured weaves. Top grain leathers in taupe, cognac, and charcoal. Accents in soft brass, brushed nickel, or matte black. Stone and glass are used sparingly for tops and shelves.
Palette: Calm neutrals with layered undertones. Ivory, stone, mushroom, and camel with contrast from espresso or soft black. Color appears as muted blues, olive, and clay rather than saturated brights.
Forms: Straight legs with light tapers, Parsons rails, framed panels with simplified profiles, eased corners, and low to medium heights. Symmetry is present but never rigid.
Details: Inset or flush drawers, slim pulls, clean face frames, quiet beading, and soft-close hardware. Edge profiles are eased or chamfered, not ornate.
